These gorgeous handcrafted sterling cross earrings feature an isleta dragonfly design with a crescent moon detail. Including the ear wire, they measure 2-3/8 inches long and 1-3/8 inches wide. Kimari cuts all her earrings from 24 gauge sterling sheet so they are not overly heavy while still having presence. She also hand turns extra long ear wires so the earrings stay put in your ears. Please expect slight variations in turquoise color from pair to pair.
Kimari Somers is a jewelry artist of Hawaiian descent who is also the widow of the late Al Somers, a highly regarded Yaqui silversmith.
The double bar cross is also known as the Isleta Cross, which is thought to originate in the New Mexico Franciscan mission of San Antonio de Isleta, though its origin goes back to the Spanish Moors, just like the Naja. To the Pueblo artists, the double-bar cross was very similar to the dragonfly symbol of their culture, so many Puebloans incorporated the Isleta cross into their art. It has since become a popular design across Southwestern jewelry designs.
Actual colors may vary slightly due to lighting, screen display and/or the way color is seen by an individual.
Handcrafted/Handmade work is unique in its design, which means that imperfections will most often be part of an item’s character. Inconsistencies will occur by nature, which makes each piece truly one of a kind; an artist is not a machine.
This listing is for the item named in the title only. Additional photo props or styling pieces are not included.
